2 Months Old!

I look at Macaulay now, and think, "where is my tiny newborn?!" He looks enormous to me. He is now two months old. He is so darling I can't even stand it. Its fun to see his personality grow and develop. He loves it when anyone will talk to him. He coos like crazy, and smiles so big that his eyes get all squinty! He got pretty fussy there for a while, but he seems much more content lately. I am guessing it was just his tummy adjusting to formula.
We took him to go see Dr. Liddle today to get his 2 month check up, and of course his immunization shots. This baby sure has chunked up being on formula! He weighs 11.5 pounds, which is 50th percentile. He is 23.5 inches tall which is in the 65 percentile. I am so relieved that he has gained a healthy amount of weight. (No thanks to my breastmilk!).
So moving on to those immunization shots. How sad is it that I had to hold my poor screaming child down while the nurse stuck him 3 times? I am sure thankful he won't remember. So after he went through all that, he is completely miserable today. He seems so sleepy and restless. You can just tell he is in pain and uncomfortable. I have seriously held him all day. I just want him to be comforted, and want him to feel loved, and I want him to forgive me for holding him down! lol.
Happy 2 months baby boy! He has lost all of his hair, except for the patch in the back
Snuggles help this baby feel comforted for sure. (good shot of his hair patch)

6 Weeks old!!

It feels like Macs has been in our lives forever. When I don't have hime with me, I feel like I am missing an arm or something. I feel like I know him inside and out, I know all his different cries, I know how to soothe him, I know his favorite things, I know what he hates! Has it really only been six weeks? But on the other hand, I look at him and wonder where the time went! How did he get so big?? How the heck is he already grew out of my favorite Newborn sized outfit?
I love seeing the changes in him. Its so fun to see him grow, develop, smile, and coo. But I am terrified that I am going to miss these special newborn moments.. am I going to forget all the cute litte things he does? I better not! I am just going to document a few things so I can remember and tell little Macs how darn cute of a newborn he was, and how much his Mama and Daddy adore him.
We love his scowls. He does it when you talk to him. He just seems so concerned.
He started smiling at 4 weeks.. not just the smile when he dreams kinda smile. It is the big open mouth grin and his eyes get small, and he only does it when you talk to him, or you are extracting snot out of his nose with a bulb syringe.
He enjoys his baths, and he really enjoys laying next to the space heater, and getting lathered with lotion... as long as he is nice and warm!
His cry is so funny.. He is just fine, and then he all of a sudden, he screams! He goes from 0-60. We say he sounds like a Pterodactyl.
His nick names now are... Macs, Cauly, Cauls, Macaularoni, Cauly Olly Wally.. and a few other random ones that are pretty generic :)
He is a sweet baby, but as he gets older, he is getting more fussy. He just seems to have more of an opinion about things. He is very loved, and he seems really happy to be here!

Macaulay's Birth Story

Macaulay Alan Walker was born on Sunday, October 9, 2011. My labor and delivery was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I don't want to forget a thing, so I thought I would document it!
I was due on October 3rd. I had a pretty easy pregnancy. The first trimester, I was super tired and a little naseous. My food adversions were sweets and lunch meat. I craved mustard, onions, and horseradish. My second trimester was my favorite. I felt great, I didn't really feel pregnant, except for the wiggly little man in my tummy. My third trimester was probably the hardest. I work as a hairstylist and as a server, so I am on my feet a lot! My pelvis literally felt like it was broken. Every step I took hurt like crazy. I also developed a cyst that was pretty painful.. but all in all, my pregnancy was pretty good, and I feel guilty complaining!

On October 8th, I started having very mild contractions at 4:00 pm. I wasn't even sure if they were contractions! I was really hoping it was real labor, because I was way overdue and I was scheduled to be induced on the 10th, and I really wanted my labor to start on its own.
I was with Colin and my niece Brie. I was telling the both of them that I thought I was having contractions, but I wasn't sure. Neither of them took me too seriously.  I had (accidently) been "crying wolf" all week.
Around 6:00, Brie starting asking if my water is going to break. Colin and I were explaining to her that only 10-20% of womens water breaks on their own.... and then my water broke!
Brie freaked out!! She ran upstairs, woke her parents up from their nap, screaming "Kenzie's water broke! Her water broke!!!!" Colin and I remained pretty calm. We already had our hospital bag packed, so I took a shower, and did my hair and makeup.
My contractions started to intensify on the drive to the hospital. When they checked me in, I was not even dialated to a 2. (I had been 1.5cm since 37 weeks!) When they checked my amniotic fluid, it had a ton of merconium it it. They were very concerned with this. They told me they would have to rush Macaulay to the nursery for a few hours so the respitory team could work on him. This scared me! I was so sad because I just imagined holding him right away, and having Colin cut the umbilical cord.
My contractions started hurting like crazy!!! I do not understand how women have a baby with no epidural!! I asked for my epidural before they put me on pitocin. I have heard horror stories about how painful pitocin is, so I opted out!
It took me hours to dialate.. So my Mom and my sister Jamie told Colin to call them when I was almost a 10. My epidural started wearing off, and the little button to give you more meds was not working! My body was shivering, and my teeth were chattering from the pain. They had to redose the epidural. They checked me and I was at a 5cm.
About an hour later, the same pain came back. My epidural was wearing off. The nurse checked me again, and I was at a 10cm, and ready to push. I was terrified! I wasn't expecting to dialate so quick, and my Mom and Jamie were not there! Plus, I could feel pain, so I definitley did not wanna feel a baby crashing through me!
Colin was so sweet and supportive. He was really encouraging to me. It was a awesome experience just being he and I.
I pushed through 6 contractions, and he was out! He cried right away, and Doctor Liddle put our sweet little baby on my chest right away because his cry sounded healthy. Colin was able to cut the cord. It was an unforgetable moment. I only held him for a few seconds because the respitory team had to work on him for a bit, but he was fine!
Macaulay Alan Walker was born at 5:15 AM on October 9th. He was 7 pounds 4.5 cm and 20 inches long. He was perfect. He had lighter hair than we thought, he was a lot smaller than we thought (being a week late!). His little ear was folded down, and it still sticks out a bit, and it is soooo cute! We are crazy about him.. he is such a blessing.
